As per the Constitution, freedom of speech only protects you from reprisals from the government, such as harassment, persecution, arrest etc. Contrary to popular belief, it does not protect you from getting fired if you say something your employer doesn't agree with, something that violates the employer's code of conduct or something that reflects negatively on your employer. This goes for government employees as well. It seems like a lot of people don't understand that, so they think they can say whatever they want wherever they want without facing any consequences.
