The US govt will incinerate over $9.7m of contraceptives resulting in 174,000 pregnancies and 56,000 unsafe abortions in 5 African countries. More than 3/4 of the contraceptives were headed to the DRC, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Mali. The contraceptives, which will not expire until 2027-29, had already been manufactured, packaged and ready for distribution. Non-profits offered to take them for redistribution at no cost to the US taxpayer, but the offer was refused. Their destruction will deny more than 1.4 million women and girls in the 5 countries contraceptive care.
