In States with a sales tax, we pay not only for the increased costs of products due to tariffs, but also the extra tax that is applied to the higher prices. On large purchases, the increase is significant and immediately noticeable. A vehicle that was $22,000 pre-tariff and is now selling for $28,000 (made up numbers), would have had a tax of $1,540 but now would be $1,960. With the tariffs, given our State income tax, I feel that I am being "double taxed." I think that the impact of tariffs on consumers will be more far reaching that we can anticipate.
