In our rush to feel good about ourselves for letting a foreign company provide our energy produced by wind turbines, we are neglecting to address a critical part of the equation for sustainability: large scale grid energy storage. Wind turbines only produce when the wind blows just as solar panels only produce when the sun shines. What happens when we have neither? Can we look forward to a future of rolling brownouts and usage restrictions enforced by our new smart meters?
