As Captain of the CMC Grammar Police, it is my duty to point out an egregious grammatical error. (I'll be demoted if I don't perform my duty.) The error in question is the all too common expression "try and." Just as no-one "attempts and" do something, so too does no-one "try and" do something. We all of course "try TO" do something. If "try and" is to be considered acceptable, how would the past tense be expressed? Would we say, for example, "He tried and do it"? Or, would we say that someone was "trying and" do something? Violaters must write "try to" 100 times on a blackboard.
