I am sure there are many people that are struggling to pay rent, but the landlord shouldn’t be the answer. You wouldn’t expect to go to your favorite eating establishment every day without paying and expect the owner to absorb the cost. Unfortunately, there are many abuses of this benefit without any oversight. There are many renters that are taking advantage of the free rent and subletting their apartment and making a nice tidy profit and collecting the enhanced unemployment benefits. You know when the gig is up, the landlord is going to wind up with their property uninhabitable.
