To the Avalon spouter: You are right that now is not the time to build, but a momentary increase in lumber prices does not erase the long-term need for affordable housing. If the red knot population were to suddenly increase next year, we would not cease our preservation efforts. Once construction costs go down, housing prices will still be dependent on size, location, subsidies, zoning laws, and other factors that we can use to make new developments more affordable.
