All men were not created equal. That is a very humanist statement. God makes the mentally and physically challenged. All men equally should have a fair chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Happiness is not, however, guaranteed. Yes, the first shall be last and the last shall be first, in heaven. Jesus kingdom is not of this world. We should feed the poor and visit the sick and imprisoned, but we cannot end poverty or illness or imprisonment. That must wait for heaven. I think people in the Middle Ages had a better grasp of this than we with all our knowledge. Kingdom come.
