Respect is earned, not assumed. On both July 4 & 12 the 59th St lifeguards earned respect by the way they dealt with entitled swimmers who didn't want to listen to them. On July 16 the lifeguard chief embarrassed himself by screaming at a 59th St lifeguard who had removed his mask. No young adult deserves the humiliation heaped on this young guard. That day, respect for thechief was lost. Our lifeguards deserve better leadership.
