Since South Philly's Italian American are demanding a replacement if Columbus statue is taken down, I nominate a statue of Joe DiMaggio. This legendary Yankee center fielder married Marilyn Monroe, was the pitchman for Mr. Coffee and immortalized in a Simon & Garfunkel as an icon. Unlike Columbus, he did not force natives to search for gold then enslave, maim or kill most of them in the end, so he could pay off the Spanish (not Italians) for financing his expedition to India. Opps, sorry but he never made it there anyway.
