I'm old and I have some vague memories of seven mile island in the 1980s. Before Memorial Day, there would very minimal business activity. Maybe one restaurant, one bar, a convenience store and a gas station open in Stone Harbor and perhaps the same in Avalon. A few more businesses would open in early June, but there was no rush. The water was still cold and the only visitors before mid-June were generally the high school seniors. After that, many businesses opened for the season, so that just about everything was open by July 4. This year's schedule may be similar. It seems archaic, but we liked it
