The so-called fleas that came up in an Avalon spout are gnats. Fleas don't fly. Gnats are part of life in an area like this as are our good friends, green head flies. They blow across the beaches with a strong, offshore breeze. Wait till you experience them in the southeast, from the Carolinas to Florida. I have experienced seven decades here, and I have learned that the littoral environment that we enjoy so much comes at a cost.
