A raise in minimum wage sounds good, but as with many well-intentioned laws, it will cause more problems than it solves. Payroll taxes for employers is high, running in the hundreds of dollars for each person employed. With higher wages come higher payroll taxes, which leaves employers no choice than to cut back on their staff. Either they will stop hiring, lay people off or both. The cost of doing business is high, especially here in NJ, where most businesses have to pay for the privilege of doing business in NJ. A higher wage will also disqualify those who need some government assistance.
