Can anyone help me understand just what studying it takes to be a television meteorologist, as all of them claim to be? Are these people actual certified weather scientists or just put on because of looks, hair color or personality? In the Philly market, there is only one or two that seem professionally trained.
Moderator's Note: Dictionaries differentiate between "weatherperson" - a weather reporter and "meteorologist" - a weather scientist. All meteorologists are not weatherpersons; nor are all weatherpersons meteorologists. Someone identified as a meteorologist should be presumed to meet a higher standard of expertise. Regardless, the climatological features of Cape May County make weather forecasting very difficult for this area.
