It is a wonder that Cape May County survives at all. Its only real economy is based on tourism, but most locals resent tourists. Reverse snobbery abounds and anybody who has worked hard to earn money is looked down on as elitists. People complain about drug addiction, but don't bother to worry about the root causes. It's easier to pass out methadone than it is to instill values and structure in families. Out-of-towners own most of the expensive property, but locals don't value the brains and work ethic that got them into that position. Smart kids from good families move away after college.
