I was saddened to have overheard a conversation between two policemen. One greeted the other, "Hey, you retired yet?" "Using up my sick time til Jan. 2 when I start my scam job. Security in an elementary school, I just sit at a desk," says the other. First guy congratulates him and offers that, "a retired buddy of mine filled in for me a year at a department as a Lt., great way to pad the retirement pay." I know their attitude doesn't represent all police, but it sure casts a long shadow.
