Before you cast your vote on the proposed medians for the Pacific Avenue project, you should read the article entitled "Safety Benefits of Raised Medians" from the Federal Highway Administration, http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov. It states how accidents without raised medians were 6.48 times higher than those with medians. It also says that raised medians at pedestrian crossings had a 46 percent reduction in pedestrian crashes. Aside from its aesthetic look and increase in property values, if medians make Pacific Avenue safer to cross for my family, it has my vote. It's all about safety.
