Two recent spouts addressed fire service consolidation. One from Wildwood presented the harsh facts. If people who are both available and able don't start to volunteer, there is no alternative other than a consolidated career FD to properly protect the public. Off-shore, the consolidation of volunteer companies is less of an urgent matter. They do not suffer the same severe lack of able and available volunteers as the shore towns. However, by at least putting all of the stations in a twp. under one organization would be a saving. It might only be a baby step, but it would be significant.
