For those who can remember reading their history books in school we were taught that monopolies were against the American free market business model. We were taught that the oil barons and railroad tycoons were un-American and counter productive to our capitalistic system. The company stores that were set up to exploit the worker were evil and against the American way. These monopolies no longer exist in today's America, however, it is ironic that they have been replaced by the medical and legal monopolies that are very much as powerful and dangerous as those evils in 19th century America.
