A Republican congressman says we should not "use" the Amtrack derailment disaster to invest in safety devices and features for the railroad. If that reasoning makes sense, than we should ignore the lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy and refuse to invest in efforts to reduce property damage and save lives when the next Sandy strikes, or when floods devastate Texas again. Clearly the party's 'family values' do not extend to the health and lives of Amtrack riders and their families.
