House Speaker John Boehner says it's "stupid" to link the Amtrack derailment to government funding for Amtrack, but if Amtrack had sufficient funds, a safety device could have been installed at the accident site that would have prevented it from happening. Every time Congress considers Amtrack's operational and safety needs, Boehner and his fellow Republicans propose cutting its budget. In a not-so-indirect sense, the "family values" members of Congress are responsible for the accident; eight deaths and 200 injured. It's the congressional Republicans who are stupid.
