Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral Kirby has repeatedly said there were no specific missions to find Sgt. Bergdahl, only routine search and destroy missions that would include searching for the missing soldier, which did, unfortunately, involve casualties. It is not military policy to just abandon any missing Americans, regardless of the circumstances.
