Not to be too basic, but free market system is a pretty good barometer for what is demanded by the public or not. You may remember the free market is what operates until the government, in so many forms, steps in. As homeowners, sooner or later, you or your heirs will be very happy to sell your bit of heaven to the next person building a McMansion. When that happens, I'd bet your "Preserve Avalon" morality won't be anywhere but in the trash.
