I understand everyone has an opinion, but to bash minorities as if they are nothing but trouble, and to have the Herald publish such ignorance is very unprofessional and hurtful to people of color. As an 18-year-old black student with a 3.6 GPA who graduated from Middle Twp. in 2013, and who never once got in trouble, I am very hurt by the racist spout. We are teens whether white, black, orange or yellow. We are not perfect, but it should not be looked at as if blacks and Hispanics are the only ones troubling Middle Twp. It's sad that such ignorance is still alive.
Moderator's Note: Spout Off is a mirror of public opinion. While the original entry may be considered “racist,” had we refused to publish it, and silenced that one voice, would that have served the First Amendment which permits free speech, albeit abhorrent to the wide majority? Have we lost the ability to accept opposing opinions in the public forum, and give them place as merely what someone else thinks? We have stood side-by-side with people of color in many situations; we have reported many stories of virtuous things that they have done, and we will do so in the future. We want to hear voices that help to change the perception of that original spouter. We want to report success stories, and for that we need a voice from within the community.
