Cape May

Cape May pays 35% of the LCMR school taxes, while sending only 6% of the students. This funding formula is based on a 1976 law that required school taxes to be based on property assessments. The 1976 law was changed in 1993 to allow the formula to be based on a combination of enrollment and property values, but the LCMR formula was never changed. Cape May still pays taxes based on property assessments, but the number of seats they have on the nine member school board reflects the low number of students they send, not the high percentage of school tax they pay. Something isn't right here.
