I spread my criticism equally; both Republicans and Democrats make mistakes. War is the most terrible thing imaginable, but if a situation is so desperate that war becomes necessary, there is no such thing as limited war. From the dawn of history, we have learned that wars are won by totally defeating and subjugating your enemies. We dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, and we devastated Germany, but we won. We gave up in both Korea and Vietnam, and we still suffer the consequences. Neither Bush nor Obama have 'won' a war in Iraq. The beheading of James Foley is a painful reminder of that.
