NJ Bill #1329 states, "The driver of a vehicle must stop and stay stopped for a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk, but shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within an unmarked crosswalk." There is a risk of a $200 fine along with 15 days of community service and at least two points, not to mention an increase in your insurance rates if this law is violated. The new law requires you to stop and stay stopped, while the old law stated simply that you must yield. Hope this clears up the confusion.
