Cape May County

To the spouter who posted in the June 4 issue about the sign coming into N. Wildwood about the turtles: Northern Diamondback Terrapins are native to NJ and inhabit the many miles of coastal salt marshes and estuaries along the Atlantic Coast and Delaware Bay. May through July is the Diamondback Terrapin nesting season. The adult females look for higher ground to lay their eggs. The soft shoulders along the road provide suitable nesting sites. Unfortunately, this coincides with the tourist season. This is why the sign is important. If you see a turtle, please stop and help it off the road.
