The Beach Drive people want taxpayers to pay for a 16-foot high dune to be built to protect their houses. Have you heard of coastal retreat as a measure for coastal resiliency planning against sea level rise? Under this scenario, the township would pass an ordinance that dune sand cannot be touched. The dunes would continue to naturally grow landward across Beach Drive until the road becomes impassible. FEMA will then come in and buy and demolish all of your houses because you are in a flood hazard zone. Removing your homes will lessen public subsidies for flood insurance. Problem solved!
