In today's world, it seems somewhat inconsiderate that schools would still hold "father-daughter" dances, and not realize the hurt and pain it causes some of the children. I speak not only of single parent situations, but also cases where the father has passed away, is in the service, or away on a business trip. I'm not sure why the schools feel it is so important to have these dances. Maybe they could simply change the name to "bring an adult to your dance" or "bring a relative or friend."
