The County is about to spend $2.5 million from the open space preservation fund and not even one cent is going to preserve actual open space. Every dollar wasted on bike paths, memorial parks, sports fields, etc. is one less dollar available to preserve real open space. The county could preserve bigger pieces of land and/or greater numbers of smaller pieces of land if it would stop wasting open space preservation funds on worthless things like bike paths, boat ramps and sports fields. Voters wanted the fund to preserve open space, not to be a slush fund for every mayor.
