Proponents of gigantic wind turbines in the ocean claim that they'll help provide cleaner air and reduce the strength of coastal storms. It's not obvious to me how offshore wind turbines will materially reduce the effects of climate change, nor how they will mitigate the strength of hurricanes. It's reminiscent of soviet-style central planning and a government-subsidized scheme to create a new industry that has no economic value. There are better uses of taxpayer dollars.
