I appreciate the Herald’s piece on Murphy’s budget. There is much to be critical about but the paper has been consistently misguided about public sector pensions and healthcare. NJ’s pension was totally in the black until governors, starting with Whitman, started raiding it and underfunding it. We need to incentivize the best and brightest choosing a career as a public servant. Attacking the aforementioned just drives them to the private sector. My one caveat is that there should be an effort to eliminate the rampant nepotism that is itself a barrier to the best and brightest.
