I see no problem asking employees to tell what they have done each week. When I was working everyone on my team submitted their timesheet with their progress to me. I would take their information and submit a weekly report to my boss detailing our weekly progress and upcoming staffing needs. There's nothing wrong with asking people to be accountable for their time. Doing business in this manner can make any project run smoothly.
