While the "Establishment Clause" of the Constitution would affirm your first statement, "In God We Trust" is the official motto of the United States, by joint resolution of the 84th Congress and signed into law by President Eisenhower July 30, 1956. With this motto on our money, one might say any celebration involving the exchange of money involves a reference to God.
