Sea Isle City - I suspect that one of the reasons why bar owners face little difficulty or push back receiving variances is because the members of the zoning board which grant variances is comprised of people who are affiliated with bar owners, either owners or employees. It is perfectly legal, but it doesn't pass the smell test. The mayor is a proprietor of a bar, a city council member works at a different bar, and the zoning board and planning boards are comprised of people who are affiliated with yet a third bar.
