North Wildwood - In the wake of the well-publicized tragic incidents on the beach last summer, I think our towns can and should do better to protect those who enjoy our beaches and ocean. The days of ending all lifeguards' shifts at 5 p.m. are long gone. Our beach patrols need to consider staggering shifts to ensure there is complete coverage until dusk. They also need to consider coverage in some capacity until at least October. The option of offering nothing after 5 p.m. and for most of September and October puts untrained bystanders, police, and firefighters into harm's way unnecessarily!
