North Wildwood - How can volunteer companies in Wildwood and North Wildwood keep all the money they earn in fundraisers? I am confused because they raise money claiming they use said funds to provide emergency services. And on the rare occasion they do make a call they are without proper gear, air packs, tools, manpower, and training. If a volunteer department showed up at your fire, they cannot enter your home under fire conditions in an attempt to save your life because they are unqualified to do so.

Moderator's Note:
The Herald made an inquiry to both North Wildwood and Wildwood fire departments. An email to North Wildwood Fire Department was unanswered. Wildwood Fire Chief Daniel Speigel, in an email to the Herald, stated, "I, as the Chief of the City of Wildwood Fire Department, have direct control over the firematic aspect of the volunteer companies (training and responses to incidents). Any fundraising activities they have or the amount of money they receive is unknown to me as they are separately incorporated organizations. I can, however, inform you that the content of the inquiry is completely off base and inaccurate. There are many instances that our volunteer fire companies aid our department in purchasing firefighting equipment and the structural firefighters that do respond to incidents are qualified, properly equipped and can enter your home under fire conditions. I am available to meet with anyone who would like to question any aspect of the City of Wildwood Fire Department's qualifications, equipment and/or training."
