Middle Township - The danger to American consumers of news is clearly seen yet again in a spout by a Dennisville spouter passing along the Priebus/FBI accusation that Priebus asked the FBI to refute some of the Russian accusations against them. The Herald corroborated this with a Wall Street Journal headline. Priebus did ask the FBI to release this information to the public. As shared in an AP report, the FBI first contacted Priebus with the facts. He then asked them to release the truth. The FBI refused. So, yet another false narrative has been perpetrated on the American people who are at a loss for real information.

Moderator's Note:
According to an Associated Press article Feb. 25, "[President Donald Trump's spokesman Sean] Spicer said it was the FBI that first approached the White House about the veracity of a New York Times story asserting that Trump advisers had contacts with Russian intelligence officials during the presidential campaign. Spicer said Priebus then asked both FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe if they would condemn the story publicly, which they declined to do." The Wall Street Journal article previously mentioned by the Herald reported similar information, stating, "In a briefing with reporters, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that last week, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe approached White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus after a meeting at the White House to tell him a New York Times story that morning reporting that Trump campaign aides had been in constant contact with Russian intelligence officials was “false.” Mr. Priebus asked that the FBI say that publicly. Later that day, FBI director James Comey rebuffed that request."
