Cape May - With all of our attention on future effects of climate change we neglect other more current threats to our environment. Plastics are a more pressing threat to our oceans and waterways. We should take some of the hundreds of millions we are spending studying climate change and give it to Boyan Slat of The Ocean Cleanup. They are a private 501(c)(3)foundation who is trying to clean up the Pacific garbage patch and have deployed a different device to catch trash coming out of rivers before it reaches the oceans. Plastics are currently worse for the oceans than a couple of degrees in temperature.
