Avalon - Maybe we're looking at this all wrong. Talented people do well at work and they do well in college. The high school graduate who goes straight to college will never know how far they could get right away in the workplace. For many individuals, it is good to know this information and it is knowable. Maybe that 'Most Likely To Succeed' will be a supervisor or other form of 'succeed' within a year after high school graduation. I've seen it happen. Sure, this won't work for those that always wanted to be a nurse or engineer. But the gap year and on-the-job training could be great for many others.
